Money can’t buy love, but Beatle Paul McCartney certainly shelled out some serious cash when he proposed to New York businesswoman Nancy Shevell with a stunning 5 carat flawless round brilliant diamond engagement ring.

Congratulations Paul & Nancy from the Robbins Brothers bloggers!

Still suffering from Royal Wedding Fever. I’ve watched footage on CNN, NBC, ABC, KTLA, CBS and TLC, but my favorite commentary by far was on the BBC, naturally.

Without further adieu, the two kisses on the Buckingham Palace balcony that have made history:

March 21, 2011 – Most celebrity marriages last a few years (if that long!) and very few produce offspring. The exception to this rule has been the gorgeous, fashionable and talented duo of Posh and Becks, aka Victoria and David Beckham. Back in the late 1990s when David was a star Manchester United footballer and Victoria was a Spice Girl, he proposed with a three carat marquise diamond with trilliant-cut diamonds on each side. Posh said “yes” and then surprised David with a “man-gagement” ring blinged out with diamonds.

Is a man-gagement ring the new “must-have” for a happy couple? It’s not every guy who feels the need to wear a ring to show the world he’s engaged, and some guys even say it’s a sign of being whipped.

David Beckham certainly isn’t lacking in the masculinity department. He’s the proud dad of three darling boys and a much-anticipated baby girl is on the way.

Want a little virility insurance for your long-term relationship? An engagement ring for him certainly couldn’t hurt.

February 18, 2011 — This weekend race fans around the country will watch the Daytona 500. With Valentine’s Day earlier in the week it appears that car enthusiasts get inspired to get engaged or tie the knot. If you can’t wait until Sunday to see if anyone will profess their love in the stands or on the racetrack, check out these romantic videos from past Daytona 500 and Indy 500 races:

February 15, 2011–Last week the Robbins Brothers ‘Love Team’ and our dear friend Gayle Anderson from KTLA-TV ushered in a season of love. Such great couples, drama, suspense and lots of tears. Phew. I can’t believe we survived the nervousness leading up to ‘Will You Marry Me’ but we did. Take a look at our exciting ‘Surprise Marriage Proposal Week’!

January 4–We send a hearty congratulations to the newly engaged couple, actress Vivica Fox (46) & club promoter Omar White (27). The two were engaged the day after Christmas when he presented her with an 8-carat ring during their stay at the Ritz Carlton in South Beach, Florida. Good-looking couple. I remember seeing them in the lobby of the Four Seasons Beverly Hills hotel when attending the Robbins Brothers/Dove Bridal Brilliance event back in September. They held hands and looked soooo happy together. Looks like they have great taste in hotels!

Reese Witherspoon, Kellie Pickler, and singer LeAnn Rimes are all looking forward to ringing in 2011 with stunning engagement rings proudly worn on their left ring fingers. Judging by the sizes of the rocks sported by these ladies, money was no object. If celebrity engagement rings are an indicator of the economy, things are looking pretty good for the new year.

Reese Witherspoon’s four carat emerald cut diamond set in platinum reportedly set her fiance Jim Toth (a celebrity agent and Loyola Marymount graduate) back a cool $450,000.

Interesting that while American celebrities didn’t have a problem spending tens and even hundreds of thousands of dollars on engagement rings in 2010, the future King of England, Prince William, chose a more frugal path. His bride-to-be Kate Middleton said “yes” to the famous sapphire and diamond engagement ring worn by William’s late mum, Princess Diana, saving the couple a cool half-million pounds.

Hmm. The prince and Kate also announced they will forgo a staff and personal assistants when they get married, preferring to do their own laundry, dishes and cooking.

A sign that England is in for a rougher financial road in 2011? Only time will tell. I’m banking on the the U.S. having a better 2011 thanks to the splurges by our own Hollywood royalty. Fingers are crossed that Wall Street pays close attention to TMZ in the new year.
