UPDATED POST – Sept 4, 2009: I’m willing to bet that if Robbins Brothers were to conduct this poll again in Los Angeles that the percentage of women who want a fireman to propose would jump up significantly.

Whether ringing the 911 operator or getting an engagement ring, women want a firefighter to show up and do the job. According to a recent online Robbins Brothers poll asking “Who would you like to show up at your door in uniform with an engagement ring?” 50% of respondents voted for a firefighter.
Clearly carrying a gun isn’t all that romantic, as a police officer proposal generated only 15% of the votes. (Funny how this seems to be a favorite choice of uniform for the strippers at bachelor parties though?)
Prospective grooms in med school may want to reconsider the potential high earnings and life-saving abilities as a shoe-in to woo your future mate: doctors are in a virtual three-way tie for third place with the UPS Man and a Mail Carrier. Just 12% of the results went to a doctor proposing, versus 11% each for those who know Zip codes better than anyone.
This online poll was conducted by Robbins Brothers between July 15 and August 2, 2009.
